Year 4 Hawthorn have been investigating the River Roch. First we looked at maps of Rochdale and highlighted where the River Roch flows. Next we looked through some resources about the river. These included looking at Roman coins found in the river, a protected plant species that grows there and we looked at how the river played a big role in the cotton industry. We were also able to smell some smells from the river, theses included : the smell of the cotton mills, the smell of the river and the smell of Otters poo! ( they have been spotted in the river banks.) As you can tell from the children’s faces, they did not smell nice!

We also got the chance to dress up in clothes that would have been worn in the factories.
