Over the last 6 weeks we have been working on a resource to help the teachers at St Lukes Primary School manage efficient classroom transitions. We have done lots of work to understand the needs of the staff and the children during these challenging times and at the end of our placement we are pleased to have produced ‘The Transition Toolbox’ (logo to the right of this page).

This resource compiles educational information, activities and signposts useful links which can be broken down into three categories of Mindfulness, Movement and Sensory. Each of these categories are further broken down into Key Stages and include individualised content which would be suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children. We have been lucky enough to have trialled our toolbox in Year 1 Willows and Year 4 Hawthorn and have had some great feedback from both staff and children. Yesterday we presented our Toolbox at the weekly staff meeting and the Toolbox received a warm welcome. We hope that it can continue to be a tool teachers access regularly to support your children with transitions.

As we start to wind down from this placement experience, we would like to thank the staff, students and parents for welcoming us into your school community and engaging and interacting with our project. The receptiveness of everyone involved with the development of the project has enabled it to happen.

For now we both look forward to the remainder of our course and are creeping ever closer to becoming MSc Occupational Therapy graduates. Our time at St Lukes school has been a pleasure throughout and we hope to work with some of you again in our future careers as occupational therapists.

Best Wishes,

Abi and Joel
