In our meetings this half-term, the school council decided they would like to do more to support our local community. They came up with a lovely idea of linking up with a local care home, discussing reasons such as ‘Some people in care homes don’t have any visitors’, ‘My grandma is in a care home and she really enjoys it when children visit’ and ‘I think we will make them smile because I bet it can be quite boring’

The children then came up with a list of ideas that our pupils could do on their visits. This included puzzles and board games, physical games, singing songs, sending Christmas cards, creating art work etc.

Today, two of our School councillors went to Springbank care home to meet with the manager.  The children were fantastic. They showed such maturity in greeting the staff and residents, discussing their ideas and taking notes to feedback to staff and pupils. The manager was very impressed and is very happy for us to link with them. We are very much looking forward to our first visit.

Well done school council!
