Year 3 Birch – micro:bit
Year 3 had a great time today exploring the micro:bit hardware and software. They loved creating their own code to make the micro:bit show emojis and other patterns!

The children read about The Easter Story. We discussed which parts represented death and resurrection. We then acted out that part of the story, with roles being shared between their friends. We worked on team building skills, listening skills and speaking skills when practising and performing for their friends.
We loved our trip to Manchester Museum and had a fantastic time looking for clues within the Museum. We made our own exhibits within our workshops and compared different animals to one another. We looked at taxidermy animals and it was amazing to see the turtle in real life!
Today year 3 joined thousands of children across the uk to join in a poetry workshop. We created a nonsense poem and were lucky enough to perform our poem online

We got to study taxidermy animals to help our understanding of scientific animal classifications
This afternoon year 3&4 got a visit from a scientist. He spoke with us about all the exciting careers we could have in science and taught us more about our topic ‘light and sound’. We completed some fun experiments too!
We had so much fun learning about oracle bones with our adults. We made them out of clay and then carved simple Chinese symbols into them with the tools provided. After that, we had some delicious lunch together. We really enjoyed sharing our learning with our adults.
We reminded ourselves of the role of an artist and looked specifically at the artist Georgia O-Keefe. We then created an abstract oil pastel picture inspired by her work. Take a look at these, they are fantastic! We used the oil pastels to create colour, texture and shading.
We had lots of fun using the stencils to create our Christmas cards. We used a sponge to create a colourful background.
We evaluated different ingredients last lesson so this lesson we could choose the most appropriate ingredients for our tarts. We chose tomato base or a BBQ base with tomatoes, spinach and cheese. We made some tarts that did not have veggies on them just in case someone didn’t like spinach Read more…
