Some of our Year 2 children have completed the phonics programme and are now taking part in daily Guided Reading sessions. Throughout the week, the children work in small groups to answer verbal questions and complete independent task based on a book. They make predictions, show skills in skimming and scanning for answers, they clarify meanings of words, show understanding by answering inference questions, discuss and answer questions about grammar, and summarise. Over the last couple of weeks, the children have enjoyed learning how to use a dictionary to clarify meanings of words. We first learnt how to sequence words into alphabetical order, before learning how to search for and write defenitions of words. The children have really enjoyed these tasks.
