This week in RE, Year 6 revisited the Nativity story. The children compared several different accounts, identified key differences, and explored how these contrasting versions contribute to a deeper understanding of the story.
We then moved on to the concept of incarnation, discussing its meaning in depth and considering why it is central to Christian belief. The class reflected on how the idea of God becoming human links directly to the Christmas story and why this remains such an important theme for Christians today.
Building on this, we looked at Jesus in three ways—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit —and discussed how Christians understand these within the Trinity. We explored Jesus’ purpose on Earth and examined a range of parables (found in the Bibles), including Jesus Calms the Storm, Feeding the 4,000, and accounts of Jesus as a healer. Through these stories, the children were able to identify human attributes Jesus demonstrated, such as kindness, friendship, compassion, and the capacity to feel human emotions including pain and suffering.
