During our science lesson today, Year 5 have started their new topic on materials and their properties. Today’s focus was hardness. The children were given a selection of items made from different types of material that they had to organise into groups depending on whether they thought they were a hard or a soft material. Once they had made their predictions, they started their scratch test. They scratched each material and if they were easily marked, they were classified as soft, and if they weren’t then they were classified as hard. The children were great throughout the experiment and used lots of scientific language when talking about their variables in their discussions together. Well done, Year 5!
