Science – Earth and Space

In our Science topic for this half term, we are looking at Earth and Space. In last weeks lesson, the children were really interested in finding out about our planet and our solar system. For lesson 2, we started by looking at the celestial bodies of our solar system and putting them in the correct order from closest to the sun to furthest away. We then recreated the geocentric model and the heliocentric model to show either the sun at the centre with orbiting planets, or the Earth in the centre instead. We then came back indoors and were given one of the celestial bodies to research and find out lots of facts including its size and distance from the sun. We then looked at and created a mnemonic to remember the order of the planets in the solar system.
