This week is British Science Week and Juniper have carried out an investigation relating to this year’s theme of ‘Time’. We began by investigating animals, their variations and how they adapt to their environment over time. Evolution by natural selection is the process of changes in a species over time to suit their environment. Although adaptations can happen within our lifetimes, evolution that creates entirely new species takes millions of years. We looked in particular at the peppered moth and how changes in the environment meant that the moth had to adapt to survive over time. We coloured in our own moths, thinking about what colours they might need to be in order to camouflage themselves from the birds in our playground. Some were very well hidden, others got eaten very quickly!
