We started off Careers Week by learning all about Bessie Blount, a famous engineer who invented a machine that allowed people who had lost limbs to eat independently without the help of a nurse. We researched facts about her and then completed a Kahoot quiz all about her work and achievements. Afterwards, we stood in front of the class and presented what we had discovered.Next, we were set the challenge of creating a wearable device that could be used by children with wrist injuries to help strengthen their wrists through exercise. The device needed to be engaging and encourage the patient to move their wrists while completing a range of exercises. We then experimented with micro:bits. Our task was to create a code that would make the micro:bit display a picture and play music when it was shaken. After that, we designed our own games and presented our ideas to the “dragons” in a Dragon’s Den style pitch. Finally, we brought our ideas to life by creating our games using Scratch. Take a look at some pictures of our fabulous week.
