This half term Year 5 are incorporating their science topic of ‘Separating Mixtures’ into their Forest School sessions. This week everyone had a great time being outdoor scientists. First we used natural resources to create diagrams showing different states of matter. After this some children explored the mixture station and used magnets and sieves to separate materials. Other children worked as part of a team to collect blackberries. We then cleaned the blackberries and made a mixture by adding sugar and lemon juice. We then made a campfire and heated the mixture, which changed the state, and created a delicious blackberry syrup. We added added this to lemonade and all enjoyed some blackberry lemonade.
