Throughout the day today, the children have taken on a challenge! They have to create a new society on a different moon – Operation Moonbase. The children were able to use all of the skills from our skills builder program to get to their end result.

Session 1: Lift off
In this session, the children used their speaking and listening skills. They were able to work together to discuss mini challenges and work together to come to their conclusion.
Session 2: Crisis on crew deck
This session looked at problem solving. The children had to work together to figure out which people they were going to take to their new moon. They were given options of job titles and told to discuss, before revealing some extra information about each person and all of the children ended up solving the problem by changing their entire guest list!
Session 3: The bare necessities
In session 3, the children had to use their creativity skills. They were able to put these to the test when they had to design their own new animal. This animal had to help them with food, transport, protection and warmth. Some of the ideas were extremely creative and the children came up with their own fictitious animals!
Session 4 and 5: Building Utopia (Part A and B)
Session 4 involved starting to plot and design our city map. The children were given 4 landmarks they had to position onto their map – a forest, a river, a volcano and a toxic swamp. The children all plotted their landmarks to begin the creation of their map of Utopia. The children were then given a selection of buildings that they could build in their city. They were only allowed to build 4 buildings so lots of discussion took place. The children were able to use their teamwork and leadership skills in these two sessions.
Session 6: Building Utopia (Part C)
Throughout this session, the children used their adapting skills to build Utopia on their flip chart paper. The children were able to create their four important buildings on their map and make them 3D before adding in extra details, such as roads and trees.
Session 7: Selling your society (Part A)
The time had come for the children to sell their society. The children used their speaking skills to create their own presentation to sell the city they had created. They had to talk about which people they had decided to take with them to Utopia, talk about the buildings they chose to build in their city, and the animal they had created with the benefits it would bring.
Session 8: Selling your society (Part B)
this session allowed the children to present their city! The children took part in a group presentation, showcasing all of their skills, to sell their city. They highlighted all of the best points, the important people they had involved in the process, and the runnings of their city. The children also discussed and showed us the incredible use of their skills builder knowledge that they have used throughout the duration of the day. They have been absolutely fantastic!
Session 9: To infinity and beyond
This final session of the day allowed us to discuss as a class how they have used their skills, which they found the easiest or hardest to fulfil, and which skills they feel that they have the most confidence in. I am so proud of all of the skills that the children have displayed today and we have had a fantastic day creating our own cities! Well done, Year 5 Juniper. You were amazing!
