Today, the Reception children had their transition day in their new classrooms with their new teachers. After having circle time, in which we got to know each other, we then read the story ‘The Cautious caterpillar’ which was about a caterpillar who was very nervous and feeling a little bit sad about the changes he was going to make to become a butterfly, but once he had become a butterfly, he really loved those changes. We thought about how we are a little bit like the caterpillar about to encounter some changes as we grow up and become butterflies in Year 1.

Throughout the day, we then completed lots of activities linked to the story. We wrote all about ourselves on our butterfly transition sheets, we used our fine motor skills to create caterpillar bracelets, we made butterfly biscuits, coloured butterfly wings, which will have our picture in the middle for our display, and decorated plant pots and planted sunflower seeds to watch them grow over summer (just like us).

We had lots of fun and Miss Lomax, Mrs Edyvean and all the Year 1 staff are excited for September. Well done children!
