Science particles

In our science topic this half term, year 5 are looking into mixtures and separation. We have been looking at how different materials are made up of particles, and how in a solid, liquid and gas the particles are different. We carried out an experiment in class to see how we could successfully separate ‘river water’ made up of water, sand and rocks. We used a sieve to separate out the rocks and a funnel with filter paper to separate out the sand. We then ended our lesson outside with a game to act as the particles of a solid, liquid and gas!
