In Science this week, Year 1 focused their learning on the senses of taste and touch. We began with a “feely bag” activity, where the children took turns placing their hands inside and using their sense of touch to describe and guess the object inside. Some children repeated the activity while wearing gloves, and we discovered that this made it much more challenging because our skin could not directly feel the object.
We then discussed how we use our sense of taste and learned about the different types of tastes, such as sweet, sour, bitter and salty. To finish the lesson, the children tasted four different foods; spinach, lemon, salted popcorn and chocolate, and used their sense of taste to decide which taste each food belonged to.
