Over the past two weeks in Reception, we’ve been having lots of fun learning all about ‘The Gingerbread Man’!

The children really enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with the repeated phrases. We then acted it out together, with everyone taking on different roles and having a go at retelling the story in their own way.

We also planned and designed our own gingerbread before making them. We started off by designing our own gingerbread in the outdoor area and then we transferred the skills to planning and designing inside. The children had some brilliant ideas and were very creative with their designs. After that, they labelled their gingerbread, using their phonics to help with their writing.

As part of our learning, we had a go at writing our own recipes so our friends could make gingerbread too. The children worked really hard to write simple instructions and are becoming more confident at writing for a purpose.

It’s been a really enjoyable couple of weeks, and we’re so proud of all the children and the effort they’ve put into their learning. Well done, Reception!
