Attention grabber

The lesson began with a Fetch and Find activity, where pupils collected objects from the table. We discussed how the objects were the same and how they differed, focusing on the materials used to make them. For example three photo frames, one made from wood, one from metal and one from glass.

Main event and exploring criteria

The children selected a range of images and sorted them into groups using their own chosen criteria. Pupils sorted the images by features such as colour, texture, material or object type. They were encouraged to try different ways of sorting and then explained how they grouped their images to the class.

To finish, the children used the Super Science Skills focus of grouping by sorting images into two groups using their own criteria, such as colour, material or texture. They shared and explained how they sorted their images.
