In Science last half-term, we learnt about materials and their properties. This half-term, we are using all of this knowledge in our new topic ‘Building Things’. We talked about a class of children who went on a school trip to the rainforest who had to quickly use the things around them to build a shelter from the rain. One built using sticks, one used paper from their books and the other used rocks and stones. The children showed their fantastic knowledge of materials by predicting what happened and using vocabulary such as waterproof, absorb and strong.

We then built 3 walls, one from cardboard, one from sugar cubes and one from Lego, ready to test in the rain next week. The children have made some fantastic predictions about what will happen to each wall.
