This week, our Year 2 class had a hands-on science lesson exploring how different forces affect everyday objects. The children pushed, pulled, twisted, bent, and squashed a variety of items—like rubber bands, sponges, rulers, paper clips, balloons, and slinkies—to see how they changed shape. They discovered that some objects, like elastic bands, return to their original shape (elasticity), while others bend without breaking (flexibility). Each group also tested a solid wooden block to see an object that doesn’t change shape. Through experimenting, predicting, and observing, the pupils learned how different materials respond to forces, building curiosity and confidence while having lots of fun with simple, everyday objects.
