This half term Year 5 have been learning about installation art. We started this unit by researching and creating artist study pages about the famous installation artist Cai Guo-Qiang. The children used paint and straws to emulate Cai’s signature explosive style for their backgrounds. The results were incredible and the children should be proud of their excellent work. Later in the unit we utilised our skills builder skills of teamwork, problem solving, creativity and planning to plan and create our own installation artwork. We created scaled down installation spaces using boxes, as well as larger installations using the classroom equipment. Over the unit we learnt that installation art is often large in scale, location is important and the art is usually personal to the artist so we put our knowledge together to create installations that were personal to us. We used our bodies to spell out some of our Christian values on the playground, we have also created christian value hand prints that we’re going to display in the forest school area for other classes to view. Well done Year 5, brilliant work!
