This week St Luke’s is taking part in ‘Hour of code’. Year 3 began their lesson by looking at some of the vocabulary involved in coding such as output and algorithms, which they had to match the correct definitions. They then moved on to using coding to make various sea creatures move in different directions, completing a number of set tasks which increased in difficulty each time. We then discussed where coding is used and looked more specifically at algorithms. The children then discussed How they would create an algorithm of how to make a jam sandwich which they tested out by telling Miss Lomax the algorithm (step by step, specific instructions) as she followed at the front of class. We soon learnt how specific and accurate algorithms have to be to ensure nothing goes wrong as at first try, the jam ended up all over the table and Miss Lomax.
