Incarnation – Christmas in year 6

In RE, year 6 have revisited the Christmas Nativity story, looking at Matthew and Luke and contrasting versions. The children looked at what incarnation is and how it related to Christmas. Come dine with me

As part of our D&T topic, Year 6 had to research, design and cook a healthy, budget-friendly three-course meal. We chose bruschetta, with tomatoes and cheese, to start, chicken fajitas for the main course, and healthy fruit kebabs for dessert. We looked at how to prepare the ingredients, including hygiene and how to prepare each ingredient, as well as how to ensure food is cooked to a safe temperature. Analysing Fieldwork Data

Year 6 had taken part in a traffic survey on Queen’s Park Road, tallying the amount, colour and types of vehicles travelling to and from Heywood.   To be able to understand the data better, we created a range of graphs to display our results visually, as a Geographer would do when conducting fieldwork. We used our computing skills and Purple Mash to create our graphs.

Rock Cycle

During our Science lesson, we used playdough to help understand the rock cycle. We make igneous rock, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rock. We explained each stage using scientific vocabulary.

Pavilions

Year 4 were set the task to build a pavilion for their chosen endangered animals. It needed to include a sheltered area and some fun things for their animals to play with. It also needed to include a gate for the animals to enter into. I think you will agree that the animals would love the pavilions that the children created.

Christmas at the Cherwell Centre

Year 4 were very lucky and got the chance to go and meet Santa at the Cherwell centre! We had lots of fun seeing the reindeers, Santa, Olaf and also meeting the Grinch! We laughed lots at the naughty elves who kept throwing snowballs at us and squirting us with water pistols. We decorated ginger bread men and baubles and had a drink of delicious hot chocolate.

Angels

In RE, the children have been thinking about angels. We discussed how Christians believe that angels are messengers of God. They studied various pieces of artwork which show angels, and discussed how they are portrayed and why. We also looked at the role angels played in the Christmas story. Children then created some fabulous nativity themed artwork.
