This half-term, our Science topic is Animals: Sensitive bodies.
In our first lesson we began by singing heads, shoulders, knees and toes to warm up and activate our prior knowledge before sharing the names of body parts we already knew. As a class, we used our teamwork skills to draw round a classmate and label as many body parts as possible.
We discussed whether all animals have the same body parts as humans and watched a funny video of birds with arms to support this conversation. The children then identified body parts of a range of animals, focussing on features that differ from humans, and completed a vent diagram comparing the human body with a cat’s.
After completing our independent task, we played musical body parts and discussed careers in which we would need to know about the body. This included doctors, nurses and physiotherapists.
The children have also enjoyed labelling Miss Charnley’s body, and fixing the skeleton, during COOL time.
