This week Reception have been exploring different careers. At the beginning of the week, parents and adults came into school for shared learning. Everyone explored and discussed different careers with their adults. They enjoyed being an artist and creating pieces of artwork, being a doctor and looking after their patients, being an engineer and designing a bridge, learning about being an aerospace engineer and a chef! Everyone was very busy!

Throughout the week, we have been learning about the different ways we can be an engineer. We have researched and different how we can be an engineer when we are older but also how we can be an engineer in the classroom and the different skills we need. Reception have been learning about Emily Roebling. She was the engineer who built Brooklyn bridge. We have all been engineers, like Emily and completed different bridge challenges throughout the week. We have been building bridges in the outdoor area, using a range of resources and we even had to build a bridge using pasta and playdoh.

Reception’s final challenge was to plan, design and build their own bridge using any recycled materials. The children were able to work as a group or on their own. Once they had finished their bridge, everyone presented it to the class. We shared what we had built, what it does and what we like best. Everyone had excellent oracy skills!
