During the Spring term, Year 6 have been studying the history of civil rights and civil rights movements in America, in particular from 1950 onwards.

We looked at famous events, rules, laws, attitudes and people. We learnt that America was very different during the 1950s, and that it took heroins, such as Rosa Parks, to change the attitude and laws in America, to help ensure that black people had the same rights as white people.

We also looked at the situation currently, and how movements such as ‘Black Lives Matter’ and the death of George Floyd have highlighted the issue of racism and how it is still part of society.
