This week in Reception we have been learning about the country India and the festival of Holi. The children enjoyed exploring where India is on a map and learning about Indian animals, food, famous landmarks and traditional clothing.
As part of our creative activities, the children made Indian flags and decorated colourful Indian elephants.
To celebrate Holi, we explored lots of exciting sensory and creative experiences. The children created rangoli patterns, dyed rice, mixed colours with shaving foam, enjoyed mark making with ice lollies and crushed chalk to make coloured powder.
We finished the day by throwing coloured powder together and shouting “Holi Hai!”, just as people do during Holi celebrations.
It has been a wonderful week of colourful learning and the children thoroughly enjoyed discovering more about a different culture.
