Today Pine have taken part in the Urenco “Sorting Things” Workshop, where they explored different ways scientists separate mixtures. Through a range of hands-on activities, the children investigated sieving, chromatography, indicators and centrifuges, learning how these techniques are used in everyday life and in industry. They tested substances to discover whether they were acidic, alkaline or neutral, separated colours in inks using chromatography, and discussed how centrifuges help separate materials such as blood plasma. The workshop encouraged curiosity, teamwork and scientific thinking, helping pupils understand the important role science plays in solving real-world problems while having fun through practical investigation.
