This half term Year 5 will be focusing on painting and mixed media during our Art lessons. To start off our new topic we spent time researching, and creating artist research pages, about the artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman. Chila is a British artist known for her vibrant, mixed media work that blends Punjabi culture, feminism, and pop art. Her bold style incorporates neon lights, collage, printmaking, and digital media. Much of Chila’s artwork is inspired by her father, who ran an ice-cream van, and she often includes ice-cream images in her art. The children used a Styrofoam printing technique to create an icecream template, which we painted and pressed onto our pages as a background. The children tried to emulate Chila’s bold style, before adding facts about the artist. Well done for a great start Pine!
