Stay and Play

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our phonic and reading workshop and stay and play this week. All of the children loved having you in school and they have been talking about it lots in class afterwards. Thank you! This week we have been learning about the importance of eating healthy to be superheroes. So, we wanted to carry our learning on with our parents. During the afternoon we read a funny Read more

Healthy Eating

We have had a fun week this week learning about healthy eating and what foods are good for building up our super hero powers! We were tasked with making a superhero smoothie that would be healthy, make our powers stronger and would taste nice all at the same time. At the beginning of the week we tried some different smoothies to test out what fruits and flavours went well together. We then voted for our Read more

Buzzy bees

We’ve been buzzy worker bees this afternoon- we made some delicious honey bananas. We have been learning all about how bees make honey. Hallé Music Workshop

This afternoon, Year 5 enjoyed working with two talented musicians from the Hallé Orchestra. First they learnt about the orchestra and what they do. They were then introduced to the piece of music that they will be performing at the Bridgewater Hall. The children discussed how the music makes them feel and how it can be linked to art. They then began rehearsing using percussion instruments and made fantastic progress over the afternoon.

Finding Ancient Egyptian artefacts

Today Year 5 enjoyed working in teams as archaeologists to find ancient Egyptian artefacts hidden around the garden. We then discussed how we could describe these artefacts using powerful vocabulary and we used the FANTASTICS to guide us. This experience lesson will help us with our English lesson tomorrow, where we are writing about an Egyptologist discovering an artefact.

Feel the pulse

During PE this week, we enjoyed looking at how and why our pulse rate changes. We looked at resting heart rates and discussed what these might tell us about our fitness levels. We wrote a hypothesis about the link between the two.  We decided to test the hypothesis by completing a sprint for as long as possible after recording our resting heart rate. We predicted that those of us with a lower resting heart rate Read more

Message in a game

In computing this week, we enjoyed learning more about online safety features and risks, and the symbols that represent them.  We had lots of fun playing a game on Purple Mash where we collected the safe symbols and avoided those that represented a risk. As a class, we discussed the meaning of the symbols and everyone of us (adults included!) learned something new about staying safe online. We then created our own game with the Read more
