Hour of Code

This week it’s ‘Hour of Code’ week and Maple have been putting their coding skills into practice. We began by watching a video about coding – some children were surprised to learn that it isn’t just computers that have coded programmes but items such as washing machines, microwaves and cars too! My Christmas star

We worked with a partner to act out a different plot point for our class story. We didn’t use our voices just our body! Islamic art

For RE today we looked at Islamic art and how it is used to decorate everything from clothing to mosques. We then went outside to write some special words that are important to us. We used colourful chalk to write our important word then used patterns to decorate it. We had so much fun and our designs looked amazing.

Jonah and the Whale

  This week we have learnt about Jonah and the Whale. We listened to the story and then part way through discussed how Jonah might’ve felt, along with how God might’ve felt. It was interesting to hear some of the opinions within our class.

This afternoon we have been learning about the pitch in music. We have listened to different songs and used our hands to show whether it is a high or low pitch. Gruffalo Biscuits

This week in Snowdrops we have been reading ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’. We have compared the two stories and discussed how they are similar and different. Today we had a special treat and made gruffalo biscuits. We used melted chocolate for his fur, orange smarties for his orange eyes, a green jelly bean for the wart on his nose and marshmallows for his mouth. They were delicious!

Crater formation investigation

This afternoon, year 5 researched craters on Earth and on the Moon and compared how they were different. We then discovered how they were formed. We then designed and conducted an investigation to find out how to create the biggest craters. We thought about how to control variables to ensure it was a fair test.
