We have had a very fun filled week in Birch class taking part in activities to celebrate British Science week.
In DT, the children baked their own bread. They worked hard to learn what ingredients and measurements were needed. The children really enjoyed the process of making the bread and of course tasting it!
The children took part in the ‘The Great Toast Mystery’. This scientific enquiry required them to investigate whether or not buttered toast always lands butter side down.
The children’s predictions and how they articulated their findings was brilliant.
We linked this to our computing with a focus on Newton and the apple and the discovery of gravity.
In maths, the children used their computing skills to access puzzles and problems on the laptops. Many children learnt a brand new maths game called ‘Strike it out’. For art, the children learnt about the artist Ernest Haeckel who brought science and art together. The children were inspired to complete their observational drawings in nature, like he did, so we completed our art work outside at forest school.

This brilliant week was finished with a game of football this afternoon.
Well done Birch on having a fantastic first week back to school after half term.😊
