This week, our learning focused on engineering, technology and oracy skills.

We began by exploring what engineering is, using sentence stems to understand that engineers plan, design, test and improve ideas while thinking about the user. We finished the lesson with a Kahoot quiz to check our understanding.

Next, we learned about Margaret Hamilton and her important role in coding the Apollo Moon missions. Pupils took part in a hot seating activity, creating short news reports where they interviewed Margaret Hamilton to explore her achievements.

In Design and Technology, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a “Shop-a-Bot” before designing our own. We then practised programming Bee-Bots by creating and testing simple algorithms.

Finally, in our oracy lesson, pupils delivered live demonstrations explaining how to use a Bee-Bot, using clear instructional language such as “Next, you…”, “Be careful because…” and “We tested it by…”.
Overall, pupils developed their understanding of engineering while building confidence in programming and speaking skills.
