As part of our learning, in the lead up to Christmas, we have been discussing angels and whether or not we believe in them. Many religions talk about angels. Christians believe that angels are God’s special messengers and in the Christmas story angels bring special messages to various people.

Today we spent time thinking about the role of angels in the Christmas story, with the children working together to order how the angels appeared throughout the story. We also discussed what we’re most looking forward to as part of our own Christmas.

The children looked at images of Mary and the angel Gabriel and annotated images detailing what they liked and disliked about the representations of the angels in each image. We created some beautiful angel artwork showing different representations of how the angels appeared in the Christmas story. We finished the lesson with a prayer thanking god for the special message the angels gave to Mary and for delivering Jesus to our world.
