For this year’s art week theme – The Natural World, Year 1 have studied the artist Andy Goldsworthy, we have collected and remembered facts, looked at his artwork, collaged a fact file and then created our own pieces inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
During cool time, some of us practised what we had been learning about, creating pieces of art with pretend flowers, making patterns and collaging.
We discussed how art is not just drawing or painting, but can be sculpting and photography, which is what Andy Goldsworthy does. We found out about the natural materials he uses in his sculptures, including leaves, rocks, sand, feathers and even… animal dung!
When we had created our pieces we took pictures, and just like Andy, found that most of the time in nature, the pieces did not stay as we had made them, because they blew away in the wind!
