For today’s challenge day, Pine have demonstrated all eight essential skills builder skills in a series of fast paced activities. They have worked together to consider the answer to the question: What makes a successful society?

Session 1: Lift Off!

The children explored using their communication skills by discussing what they currently know about space.

Session 2: Crisis on Crew Deck

We applied our problem solving skills by creating and weighing up different possible solutions to the problem: Who should be the first citizens of our new society?

Session 3: The Bear Necessities

The children applied their creativity skills to generate new ideas for an innovative species of animal that could help people in their society.

Session 4: Building Utopia

We applied the Teamwork skill by helping our team mates and making team decisions. We worked together to draw important landmarks on our maps: a volcano, a river, a toxic swamp and a forest.

Session 5: Building Utopia
The children applied their Leadership skills by making sure their team met the deadline and resolved disagreements. They chose which buildings their city would include and decided what each team member would construct during the session.

Session 6

We applied our adapting skills by not giving up when something went wrong with the building of our city. We reflected on what had gone wrong and worked together to fix it. We built a 3D map of our new city.

Session 7 & 8: Selling Your Society

We applied our speaking skills by using appropriate language, tone and expression. We considered what our audience know and how we could build on this knowledge. We then performed our presentation, listening and responding to other children’s presentations also.
