This week. our HeartSmart focus was understanding emotions and how they can sometimes affect our behaviour. The children could think of lots of examples of times when they had felt angry or excited and did something that they wish they hadn’t. The children explored the area searching for emotions hidden on the trees and discussed examples of these. We also talked about how it is normal to feel these emotions but we need to try to control our behaviour and not let our emotions control what we do  . We linked this thought to the feelings involved in the Easter story and discussed how Jesus might have felt at different points during Easter week. Everyone then got busy taking part in lots of activities. We learnt how to tie a square lashing and made crosses to reflect on the emotions of Easter week. We also used clay to create different emotion faces using natural materials. Everyone toasted a brioche on the fire. During free play time, some children chose to build a wormery, make bows and arrows and climb trees.
