This week, St Luke’s have celebrated the 80th Anniversary VE Day! Year 5 Juniper came in dressed in red, white and blue to mark the occasion. We began our day with a wonderful assembly with Miss Fisher where we learnt all about VE Day and why it is such an important day. We even got to see some real war medals that one of the children’s great great grandad had earned in the war! After this, we came back to class where for our maths lesson we learnt all about rationing. At this time we had our ration sheets and were in charge of the weekly shop and working out how much it would cost to feed a family of four on rations during the war. We then participated in a live online lesson with Mr Dilly who was hosting a VE Day 80th Anniversary Special which the children loved. At lunch time, the weather was lovely so we had a picnic outside with our friends! In the afternoon, we had lots going on. We did some artwork of the poppies that are displayed at the Tower of London, did a cookery session where we made a wartime recipe of Spam Hash, and took part in a dance workshop! The children had a fabulous day, learnt lots about VE Day and did some super activities!
