This half term, our class has been diving into the world of rocks, fossils, and geology, taking on the role of real-life geologists. We explored the three types of rocks—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic—and learned how they form and what makes them unique.

We sharpened our skills by classifying rocks based on their colour, shape, texture, and size. It was exciting to discover shiny crystals, rough textures, and even surprising patterns in the rocks we studied.

To deepen our understanding of Earth, we created models of its layers using Playdoh. Each student carefully crafted the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core, learning about what lies beneath our feet.

Two pupils kindly brought in their fossil collections, inspiring us to set up a classroom fossil museum. We observed fossils of ancient seashells and fish, identifying the creatures and discussing how fossils form in sedimentary rocks. It was incredible to hold pieces of Earth’s history in our hands!

The activities sparked curiosity and excitement about geology. If you have rocks, fossils, or artifacts at home, we’d love for you to share them with the class. Who knows? We might have a future geologist or paleontologist among us! 🌍
