Science-Parts of a flower
In Science, have been learning all about plants this half term. In todays lesson, we looked at the parts and functions of a flowering plant. We used a tulip to observe each of the parts, taking it apart bit by bit, labelling each one. We found the sepals, ovule, ovary, style, stigma, petal, filament and anther.

Literacy kicks
Year 6 have taken part in 6 workshops across 3 weeks, looking at the role of sports journalists, guided by journalist, Gareth Walker. Taking a different historical sporting moment each session, Gareth has guided the children through the process of how to create a quality piece of journalistic writing. Both year 6 classes have enjoyed completing a scavenger hunt today in the sun looking at all aspects of arithmetic in preparation for their SATs next week. Well done.

The Linking project
Year 4 have been taking part in the ‘Linking project.’ At the start of Year 4 we met children from Ashfield Valley Primary School at the M6 theatre. Since then we have been receiving and writing letters to our linking buddies. Last Monday was very exciting as our linking friends came to our school for the day! We took part in two workshops. Eid Celebrations
In RE this half term, we have been studying the religion of Islam. We have discussed the five pillars of Islam and why the month of Ramadan is important. We also found out about the celebration of Eid-Ul-Fitr. We compared this to Christian celebrations such as Christmas. We found that there were many similarities. We learnt so much during our Synagogue trip and got to see lots of amazing and interesting things such as the Torah, the mezuzah and more.

Fossils!
Juniper have been learning about Fossils in Science. We carried out an activity to show how fossils are made. After an animal dies, the soft parts of its body decompose leaving the hard parts, like the skeleton, behind – we used sweets to symbolise these animals. This afternoon the children have been thinking about the houses in the three little pigs story. We talked about the different materials they were made out of and whether those materials were a good choice to build with. The children then made their own house, choosing materials that they thought would withstand the big bad wolf’s huff and puff. We tested the houses by trying to blow them down with a hair dryer.
