This week we have been learning about different minibeasts. We have been learning to identify them, name them, notice the differences and similarities between them and recognise their microhabitats. Today we carried out an investigation to see what happens when you melt a solid. In the experiment we placed an ice cube in our hands and observed the effects. We found that when heat is added to a solid it turns into a liquid.
The Great Science Share is an annual event, aimed at inspiring children to share scientific questions with new audiences. Harwood Park hosted the event and 6 schools’ including ours attended. Each school had a group of 8 pupils’ conducting a range of different Science experiments. We went out onto the playground to see how windy it was for Geography. We found that the bubbles blew in all different directions and sometimes, the wind looked like it had stopped completely… with the bubbles floating up! We had so much fun 🙂
Today, both year 6 classes took a trip to Heywood Sports Village where they took part in lots of different activities to support their transition from primary to high school. The children looked at ways they can manage stress and anxiety leading up to high school but also whist they are they are there. This half-term Year 5 are doing yoga as part of their PE lesson. So far Michelle has taught us about having a positive mindset, balancing and creating yoga poses. We are really enjoying the sessions.
Year 5 started their new science topic today: Reproductive Cycles! We were introduced to some new life in our classroom. We have baby caterpillars and giant triops eggs. We are looking forward to seeing how they grow and develop. We are very curious to find out more about them. During Geography lessons, Year 4 are learning about Rivers so we took a trip to see the River Roch. Whilst were we there, we conducted an investigation to look at the speed of the River. We were very excited that we were able to have our break time on Queen’s Park too.
As we have worked so hard this week (completing our SATs), we had a class reward! Emma’s Crazy Critters came into our class. She bought Bearded Dragons, a snake, an iguana, baby rabbits, and geckos. We were very brave and held these different critters or gave them a stroke.
For Maths this week we went into the hall to complete lots of Maths activities. We had lots of fun solving the problems, working with our partners. Thank you Year 4 and Mrs Grindrod for making Maths so exciting.
