Thinking about emotions at Forest School

This week. our HeartSmart focus was understanding emotions and how they can sometimes affect our behaviour. The children could think of lots of examples of times when they had felt angry or excited and did something that they wish they hadn’t. Bake off

The children in Year 4 chose an ingredient to add to a biscuit recipe. We then all tried each others biscuits and rated them. Next week we will be designing our own biscuits using all the research we have conducted. We will also be looking at the budget we have to make the biscuits to ensure the ingredients don’t cost too much.  

Yoga sessions with Michelle!

During this weeks yoga sessions, both year 6 classes were given a task to create different yoga poses. This mean that the groups had to instill trust within each other and also believe in their team. The children worked in different teams and had different skills and abilities that made their team work. They achieved different poses such as contact and non-contact pose. Instruction writing- How to make a bird feeder

This week we have started our new unit in English – instructions. To begin we had to use the ‘shapes’ to put instructions in the correct order. Once they were in the right order we had to follow these instructions to make a bird feeder. Afterwards we put the bird feeders in the fridge then hung them on trees on our school grounds for the hungry birds- we hope they enjoy them. We are now Read more

Tree planting

On Tuesday, Year 5 had a fantastic time planting trees on the Millers Brook site behind school. The children listened carefully to the experts, who taught them techniques for successful planting. We discussed why trees are important and learnt about different native trees. The children then got stuck in planting the trees and collectively planted 210 trees. The children worked really hard and were proud of their achievements.

Maths Treasure Hunt

Both Year 6 classes took part in maths treasure hunts this afternoon. They had to apply their knowledge of finding percentages of amounts and equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. The children worked in groups to solve a variety of problems in the quickest time possible, moving between problems as they solved them. They had lots of fun as well as revising key mathematical skills.

Holi Festival

Today we have celebrated The Festival of Colours (Holi Festival). We have had so much fun! We started the day by listening to the story behind the Holi Festival. We then experimented with paint mixing and crushing flowers to see what colour mark they would make on big paper. In the afternoon, we went outside with Bluebells and threw powder paints at the floor to replicate the traditions of the Holi festival. We then used Read more

Easter Traditions Around the World

This afternoon Maple have been researching different Easter traditions around the world. We carried out a ‘quiz hunt’ around the playground, searching for clues. Did you know that on the island of Corfu, on the day before Easter, the islanders throw pots made from clay, filled with water, from their balconies.! The people believe that this represents the new crops that will be grown during springtime.
