Science Lab Coats!

As part of our learning in Science, Year 6 have been provided with laboratory coats. Each lesson, one child is selected to wear the coat to represent that we are scientists and must work and think like scientists within our lesson. After the lesson, children who have impressed get the chance to decorate part of the coat to summarise their learning from the lesson. This week, we looked at different types of energy stores, and Read more

Static Electricity

This week, Year 5 began their new Science topic ‘Electrical Circuits’. Our first lesson was all about static electricity. We learnt how static electricity is created, why we feel static shock, when we see evidence of static electricity and how thunder and lightning is created. To support our understanding, we experimented using balloons and went outside to use our own bodies to show how lightning and thunder are created.

Home science experiment – week 4!

Well done to all the children who participated in last weeks science challenge at home – how amazing was it to see the water rising, even after the flame on the candle had gone out. We were both so impressed to see so many different children getting involved yet again. This weeks challenge is ‘Milk art’. This looks so fun and easy so lets see how many people we can get participating this week. Follow Read more

British Science week 2022 – Growth

Last week the whole school carried out science activities based on the topic ‘Growth’ for British Science week. Through assemblies in class, the children discussed, drew and imagined what a scientist looked like. Then we all recognised that anyone, including the children could be a scientist as long as you work hard and try, just like some of the famous scientists that year 3, 4, 5 and 6 looked at (Sir David Attenborough, Mae Jemison, Read more

British Science week

This week we have had lots of fun for British Science week. We have worked together to make a wormery, we discussed a worms habitat and then went into Kayden’s garden to search for worms.  We were looking for three different types of worms – Earthworms (endogeic worms),  Deep borrowers ( anecic worms) and Surface Dwellers (epigeic worms). Luckily it was raining so a lot of worms had come to the surface of the soil.  Read more
