This afternoon, Year 5 enjoyed working with two talented musicians from the Hallé Orchestra. First they learnt about the orchestra and what they do. They were then introduced to the piece of music that they will be performing at the Bridgewater Hall. The children discussed how the music makes them feel and how it can be linked to art. They then began rehearsing using percussion instruments and made fantastic progress over the afternoon.
Today Year 5 enjoyed working in teams as archaeologists to find ancient Egyptian artefacts hidden around the garden. We then discussed how we could describe these artefacts using powerful vocabulary and we used the FANTASTICS to guide us. This experience lesson will help us with our English lesson tomorrow, where we are writing about an Egyptologist discovering an artefact.
During PE this week, we enjoyed looking at how and why our pulse rate changes. We looked at resting heart rates and discussed what these might tell us about our fitness levels. We wrote a hypothesis about the link between the two. We decided to test the hypothesis by completing a sprint for as long as possible after recording our resting heart rate. In computing this week, we enjoyed learning more about online safety features and risks, and the symbols that represent them. We had lots of fun playing a game on Purple Mash where we collected the safe symbols and avoided those that represented a risk. Last week, Supertato invited us to a party to say thank you for helping him catch the Evil Pea. Last Friday, Supertato (with the help of his friends!) caught the Evil Pea. In Maths today, we’ve begun our new topic – area. The children have learnt that area means the amount of space that something covers. We investigated the area of different shapes using counters and explained why it is important to use the same size counter when measuring the area.
