British Science week – STEAM lessons based on the theme Curiosity
Science – We learnt about how birds build nests using natural materials to keep their eggs safe. We then went to Forest School and worked in teams to build our own nests using sticks and leaves. This activity helped us develop our teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and adapting skills.
Technology – In our DT lesson, we investigated which biscuit was best for dunking in tea: rich tea, ginger nuts or digestives. We tested each biscuit and observed which one stayed strongest the longest. This activity helped us develop our problem-solving, teamwork, creativity and aiming high skills.
Engineering – In our computing lesson, we used Bubble and Free Chimp on Purple Mash to create and follow algorithms. We learnt how to give clear instructions and debug mistakes to make our programs work correctly. This activity helped us develop our problem-solving, creativity, teamwork and aiming high skills.
Art – In our art lesson, we explored the work of William Morris and used his designs as inspiration to create our own repeated patterns through printing. We experimented with colour, shape and repetition to make our designs effective. This activity helped us develop our creativity, aiming high, problem-solving and staying positive skills.

Maths – In maths, we focused on being curious by exploring different ways to sort a set of houses in “Sort the Street.” We discussed how the houses could be grouped using different features and explained our thinking. We also solved “Catrina’s Cards” by drawing pictures and making jottings to help us work out how many cards she had. This activity helped us develop our problem-solving, creativity, speaking and listening and staying positive skills.
