As part of Safer Internet Day, we enjoyed listening to the story ‘Webster’s Friend’. In the story Webster is talking to a stranger online and telling lots of fibs to impress him. As a class, we discussed the dangers of talking to strangers online and what to do if we are worried about anything we see online. We also talked about using avatars and usernames to conceal our real identities and prevent us from sharing our personal information.
We made posters to share the message of ‘Free to be…’ and discussed how the internet, when used responsibly can give us opportunities to be free to: be creative, be different, be safe, expect respect and ask for help.
