In Year 5 Juniper, we have been learning about different states of matter and what would be the best way to separate mixtures into pure substances. We carried out a practical experiment in class to separate river water containing sand and rocks into three separate substances. We used lots of scientific equipment including beakers, sieves, filter paper and funnels to carry out our experiment. We had a discussion about what would be the best way to separate the substances before we used a sieve to remove the rocks, followed by filter paper and a funnel to separate the sand and water.
