This week we have been learning about South Africa. Our focus book has been Handa’s Surprise.
In Literacy, we have worked as a class to act out the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’. The children used masks to act as the animals, taking the fruits from Handa’s basket in the correct order, as Handa made her way to visit Akeyo. The children in the audience helped the children acting to remember what order the animals came in.
During our Topic lesson, we tasted delicious African fruits from the story. Most of us really didn’t like the avocado but we loved the guava juice!
In our maths lessons, we have focused on subtraction. We pretended to be the animals from Handa’s Surprise and stole fruits from the basket. We then counted how many we had left.
