What a fantastic day we have had! We began with an assembly led by Miss Fisher, in which we learnt about VE Day and it’s significance. We heard from 2 class members whose great grandparents fought in the wars. Then we learnt about rationing and how much food we would have been able to buy from the shops. We used our maths skills to work out how much this would have cost us in today’s money. At 11am, we joined in with a live online lesson, ‘Mr Dilly’s VE Day 80: A Victory in Europe WW2 Special’. After lunch we created some poppy artwork, taking inspiration from the 30,000 ceramic poppies on display at the Tower of London. In groups, we went to the Rush Room to make ‘Spam Hash’, an old wartime recipe. Some of us liked it, some of us definitely didn’t!
