Year 5 Juniper were very lucky this morning to have Islamic artist Razwan Ul Haq visit. Razwan is an award winning Arabic Calligrapher and has spent his life creating visual art out of distilling traditional Arabic Calligraphy techniques. Razwan showed the children lots of examples of his work, including a piece he was commissioned for in 2014, which was to produce a large-scale land art work, Al Asr, the Time, for the Tour De France in Yorkshire. This image was seen by a billion people.
Razwan really engaged the children in his art, encouraging them to create drawings of their favourite things and include Arabaic writing in them. He then went on to teaching them how to use his ‘bamboo pens’ and ink (which he makes himself from the acacia tree, soot and rainwater) to produce some calligraphy. There was some amazing work produced.
