St Luke’s have been awarded the Association for PE and School Sport Quality Mark with Distinction.

All young people are entitled to benefit from high quality physical education and there is significant evidence to show this supports other learning right across the curriculum. PE also contributes to healthy and active lifestyles, improves emotional well being, reduces poor behaviour, increases attendance and develops key skills such as leadership, confidence and social skills. St Luke’s were awarded the quality mark with distinction, the highest honour possible, and added to the Roll of Honour, which can be found here: https://www.afpe.org.uk/page/afPE_Quality_Mark

Below are the comments made by the assessment panel and validation team on why they felt we deserved the award:

• Staff at St Luke’s demonstrate an outstanding knowledge of the school context (i.e., the
socioeconomic circumstances surrounding the school, the above national average for
Pupil Premium) and how this knowledge informs the curriculum planning/facilitation.• Staff also have a strong rationale for the use of the Primary PE Planning (PPP)
programme, which underpins their curriculum. This programme enables all staff – from
teachers to teaching assistants – can make accurate and productive use of both
formative and summative assessments.
• The Subject Leaders have been highly receptive to feedback throughout the process
and are reflective practitioners in the truest sense. I am convinced that the pupils at St
Luke’s are having an excellent experience of PESSPA throughout their time at the school,
which is down to the collective efforts of the Subject Leaders, Support Staff and the
Leadership Team.
• The pupils at St Luke’s demonstrate outstanding behaviour for learning and it is clear,
both in the application and from the validation visit, that pupils are highly engaged with
PESSPA in each year group, including SEND pupils.
• The staff commitment to inclusive practice is excellent, as evidenced both in the
application and as observed during the validation visit.

Well done to all staff and pupils at St Luke’s for receiving this award.
